It is easy to think that it is all about the appearance of the smile and that it is about Dentistry making money. In our practice, we’ve have committed to learning all that we can offer the very best diagnostics and make appropriate recommendations for our patients.

The fact is it’s not just about the teeth but more importantly, the underlying facial bones and most important is the airway.

The difficulty with making this decision is that all too often not only do you not completely understand all that is going on but also the clinician/orthodontist either doesn’t know or ignores these more important aspects.

The bottom line is that the vast majority of crowding cases have underlying growth and development issues that if left untreated will lead to many more serious issues later in life. These problems include TMD (jaw problems), sleep disorders, headaches and pain, and even general poor health related to co-morbid conditions related.

Don’t sell yourself or your child short explore all of your options, if the particular orthodontist or dentist is only focusing on teeth you are not getting the full picture.
